Farms with livestock are becoming fewer, and natural pasture is becoming overgrown.1 One person owns the land and another owns the animals, and the fence that would bring them together costs too much to build on fragmented land. No one takes responsibility for what lies in between. We do.

Land where a physical fence would never be worth building can now be grazed. That is why Beterra exists.
Today, hundreds of thousands of hectares of land are waiting for animals, and farmers are looking for land for theirs. What has been missing is something that finds the land, makes it ready for grazing and connects the right parties. That is what we are building. Pilot in 2027. Thousands of hectares within three years. Then Europe.
We find land that can be grazed but is not being used, so you do not have to search for it yourself.

Valdemar’s grandfather has land that should be grazed, but as a private individual it was too complicated and too expensive to arrange. He was not the only one. Now that virtual fences are legal, it can be done. We start with a pilot in 2027 and aim for thousands of hectares within three years, then Europe.

That brokerage connects landowners and livestock keepers when the pasture is already usable. We make the land ready for grazing: we find it, arrange the agreement and provide the fence.
The collar registers it and the livestock keeper sees at once where the animal is. The grazing is planned around the roads, water and existing enclosures surrounding the land.
Always the farmer. The animals are the farmer’s, and the farmer looks after them every day. We stay out of that.
Not as well as on open land, because dense forest interferes with satellite reception. We write down which areas are included before we begin.
The agreement runs for several years, because it takes a few seasons to bring the land back under grazing. The length, and the terms for leaving, are in the agreement before you sign.
The animal welfare rules apply to virtual fences just as they do to physical ones: the equipment must not cause suffering, injure the animals or unduly restrict their freedom of movement. The County Administrative Board (Länsstyrelsen) checks that the rules are followed.
The agreement covers grazing only. Hunting and forestry are yours and are left alone. We write down which areas are included and which are kept out before we begin, and because the boundaries are virtual they can be moved if something changes.
Virtual fences have been permitted outdoors for cattle and sheep since 1 January 2026, but not for goats. The equipment first gives an audible signal and then a mild electric shock if the animal continues across the boundary.5 The Swedish Board of Agriculture (Jordbruksverket) has not yet issued detailed regulations, and responsibility for using the equipment lawfully rests with the livestock keeper.
